4 killed, 6 injured in Interstate 80 crash in San Pablo

Four people were killed and another six were hospitalized Saturday night after a highway crash in San Pablo involving five vehicles, one of which fled the scene, officials said.

“It’s a very complex collision,” said Officer Matthew Hamer, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. “It’s being investigated as a five vehicle hit-and-run collision.”

All westbound lanes of Interstate 80 at San Pablo Dam Road were closed following the collision, reported to police about 8:15 p.m. One eastbound lane was closed because of debris.

First responders arriving at the crash found an overturned white sedan. The driver of the car was injured and transported to a nearby hospital, but four other passengers inside were pronounced dead at the scene, Hamer said.
